Behind the camera with Blue Peter

Back in August, the BBC broadcast the first in a series of articles charting the overhaul of Blue Peter on the CBBC channel’s Blue Peter television programme.

The first instalment focussed on Blue Peter presenters Barney Harwood and Radzi Chinyanganya moving the locomotive from its previous home at Barrow Hill Roundhouse in Chesterfield to our facilities at Crewe – with lots of on screen assistance from Trustee Peter Greenwood.

Blue Peter presenter Lindsey Russell then picked up the story at Crewe by assisting with the locomotive’s strip down and work required on repairing the boiler. Steve Latham, Managing Director at LNWR Heritage, had a starring role, explaining to Lindsey the work that was being carried out and why it was necessary. The film crewe BBC had a great day with us and report that Lindsey really enjoyed getting involved with overhauling Blue Peter.

With a long standing, close association between the TV programme and our Blue Peter, the BBC will be filming with our team at LNWR Heritage in Crewe throughout Blue Peter’s overhaul and her eventual return to steam.
