Get Involved

We are not currently looking for new volunteers. Please check back here from time to time as this may change in the future.

Based in London we are one of the largest operators of main line steam locomotives. And with a varied fleet of engines from all the 'Big Four' and British Railways, there are great opportunities to learn about the mechanics of operating steam on the modern railway.

What's involved?

New volunteers can start by helping us clean our engines and facilities - ash doesn't shovel itself you know - making sure our locos are immaculate.

As you progress you will get the opportunity to help prepare engines and assist our engineers in keeping them running, before possibly being invited to join us on preserved railways and even the main line.

What skills do I need?

Ideally we are looking for individuals who already have main line or heritage railway experience. We will provide you with all the training and guidance you need, explaining what we do and how we do it, helping you become part of our team.

Where can I volunteer?

While we are based in Southall, West London, our locomotives travel all across the country. New volunteers are able to start at our Southall Depot where we will introduce you to our team and how we work, before being invited to assist at the other locations we operate from.
